Baseball Analysis
The popularity of baseball is widely recognized in the USA. However, it is also considered a national past-time in many Latin American and East Asian countries such as Mexico, Cuba, Japan, China, and South Korea. In recent years, European and Australian baseball leagues have grown in popularity and developed on the competitive global landscape. However, it is also a sport that has high impact on the athletes’ bodies due to its complex and repetitive movement patterns. Injuries that are most common and occurring regularly to baseball athletes are related to shoulder (SLAP, biceps, rotator cuff) and elbow (flexor tendon, UCL, VEO).
Past: Marker-based motion analysis
As in any competitive sport, traditional marker-based motion capture and analysis has been beneficial for technique analysis and improvement, injury prevention and training adjustments, however, it was unable to capture recordings during live competition. It is critical for teams and trainers monitoring and analyzing performance and stress level during live competition. Until recently, this application field was considerably restricted due to the limitations of marker-based solutions:
- Stadiums and outdoor locations lack laboratory-like conditions
- True competition conditions can never be 100% simulated in a laboratory
- The use of analysis accessories like markers attached to the athletes is prohibited during competition
- Results were based on the dependence of post-event analysis and pure camera images without biomechanical data
Present and Future: Markerless motion analysis
The need for a real markerless motion capture and analysis technology was apparent. With more than 30 years of expertise in the field, Simi has developed and deployed the first MMC solution. With our MMC we broke down boundaries and opened up unprecedented opportunities:
- Accurate data without requiring markers
- Outdoor or indoor capture - Stadium, gym, we have a solution
- Motion capture during competition for real competition analysis
- Zero disturbance of the athletes’ pre-competition routine (the athlete does not need to be prepped with any equipment or involved in any process)
- We equip your location with our Simi systems and cameras
- Retrieve the data in the course of the competition and analyze it afterwards
- It is your location, hence it is your data – also the recordings of the opponent
